It’s best to make restaurant reservations and note that most kitchens stop cooking at around 8.30pm. A number of restaurants permit Bring Your Own (BYO) alcohol.

​

A number of restaurants change their opening hours during the months of Jan-March (sometimes without much notice due to the weather). It's recommended you contact the restaurants during this period to find out their opening hours. 

​

The bus service links with the ferry timetable and the ferry will wait if the bus is running late.

​

Taxis will be available for the first and last ferry but they do not operate 24/7.  It's best to book ahead for night time pickups. Magnetic Maxi Service - Ph: 0432 207 186.

Most businesses accept EFTPOS and Paywave but its still a good idea to carry some cash.

​

There is no foreign currency exchange on Magnetic Island. There are several foreign currency exchange businesses in Townsville.

​

Be aware of Marine Stingers (dangerous jellyfish) which are present from October-May. Always swim inside the stinger nets where provided and wear a stinger suit. Ask a lifeguard for advice if you need it.

​

If you're planning on doing some walking tracks remember to bring: sunscreen, hat, suitable clothing and sturdy footwear, drinking water (most walking tracks do not have water available) & insect repellent.

​

Be aware of venomous snakes including Death Adders. Watch where you put your feet when out on the walking tracks.

​

Locals are friendly and more than happy to share their knowledge.

​

The island is amazing to visit year round but the best weather occurs during the milder months of May-October. During this time it’s still warm enough to swim and there are no Marine Stingers. November-April brings the wet season with hot and humid conditions. 

​

Dogs are allowed on Townsville City Council managed beaches that include Horseshoe Bay, Nelly Bay, Picnic Bay, Geoffrey Bay, West Point and Cockle Bay, however, they must remain on a leash.

 

There are no dog parks or off-leash areas or beaches on the island and dogs are not permitted in the National Park.

Sealink passenger ferry:

Dogs are welcome but must be muzzled and on a leash in the terminals and on board the vessels or in a pet carrier.

 

Magnetic Island Ferries car barge: 

Dogs are welcome and can be taken out of the car provided they are on a leash.
